Whether you like to tent it or are looking for a place to park your mega RV, Napa Valley has options. Here’s a run-down of the four primary camping and RV parks, with video drive-through tours, to help you decide where you’d like to call home.
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park
Calistoga, Ca
Bothe is my favorite up-valley campground, for the 1,900-acre wilderness backyard. This is the eastern-most boundary of the Redwood habitat, and you’ll find plenty of them shading the trails. Big rigs would have a hard time here, but there are plenty of sites that can accommodate smaller rigs. The yurts are pretty cool, too. No hookups.
Skyline Wilderness Park
Napa, California
My favorite place to stay down-valley. It’s close to everything in downtown Napa, yet far enough away to have a vast wilderness as your backyard. There are full hookup and water/electric RV sites. Tent sites are away from the RVs in a pleasant grassy area next to a large open space perfect for star-gazing. Hit the trails on foot, bike or horse for elevated views of the Napa area. Your best dog pal(s) can camp with you, but they can’t enjoy the trails with you.
Napa Valley Expo RV Park
Napa, California
Popular with the big rigs and those preferring a less wild, more manicured park with cement pads and lawns. The Expo is located downtown and has full hookups. Nice and flat, but not much shade or privacy here.
Calistoga RV Park
Calistoga, Ca
Also big-rig friendly, the best sites here are along the back edge where you’ll find full hookups and shady trees. It’s perfectly situated for strolling through the small town of Calistoga, Napa Valley’s most laid-back community and home to hot springs and mud baths.
